NOVEMBER 15th 10:30am PST / 1:30pm EST The GLBTQIA community have been beat down far to long. We have been complacent hoping for peaceful and fair justice. There comes a time when we can no longer sit on the sidelines. NOW is that time! We stood with the black community during their civil rights movement yet 70% of that community refuses to stand with us now and have actually stood on the other side, against us! A Nationwide Protest is being organized for November 15. We need to work fast and furious to pull this together. Click here to view a list of cities already onboard and obtain the gathering location for that city. If your city isn't listed click here to organize an effort in your city.

Video: Prop 8 Protest at Mormon Headquarters

KSL 5 TV Thousands marched in downtown Salt Lake Friday night to protest the passage of California's Proposition 8. Like their counterparts in California, the Utah protesters targeted The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It began with a rally that police tell us grew in size from dozens to somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 men, women and children carrying their signs around Temple Square. View video and article

How to petition IRS to remove Mormons tax exemption

A blog has been setup which provides all the information and links necessary to file a complaint with the IRS regarding the Mormon Church's pulpit politics. It is commonly believed proposition 8 would not have passed in California were it not for the Mormon Church involvement. As I've stated previously obtaining a religious tax exemption and then using that for politics is unfair and against the spirit of law. Visit the blog which explains how to file a complaint with the IRS.

Proposition 8, President Obama and equality

With the millions of dollars heaped upon passage of Proposition 8 in California it was hard to imagine it would be struck down. Many people fought a good fight and are to be commended. I’m sure many religious folks are very happy with the outcome. But when it comes right down to it they preserved a word, because, as we all know, given the divorce rate in the USA, there is very little sanctity or morality left in marriage. The greater victory last night was on a federal level with the election of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. President Obama will level this marriage “playing field” on the federal level and of course, as we all know, Federal Law supercedes state law. Perhaps it won’t be called marriage but it will confer all the same Rights as marriage and after all, that is the goal. [ videos ] Included in those Rights will be all state laws currently reserved for married couples and many, if not most, of the over 1000 Federal Rights which no sta...

Great-great-great grandson of Brigham Young supports wife against prop 8

by John Wildermuth SFGate The signs on the front lawn of former 49er quarterback Steve Young's Peninsula home say "No on Prop. 8," which normally wouldn't be much of a story in the Bay Area, a gay-friendly region which is the center of opposition to the effort to ban same-sex marriage in the state. But Young isn't only a Hall of Fame quarterback. He's also the great-great-great grandson of Brigham Young, the second president of the Mormon church. The church has pushed hard and publicly for Prop. 8 and Mormons have pumped millions into the campaign.

Vote NO on proposition 8 to protect all children

Believe it or not the proponents of proposition 8 and I agree. We agree on the point that children will be affected. However, we disagree on the how children will be affected! The proponents will have you believe children will be harmed by equality while the truth of the matter is that children will reap great rewards. And, in turn the world will be a better place for all. Let’s think about the children who are wards of the state and children who are currently being raised in a same-sex household. By the simple existence of children who are wards of the state we know there obviously are more children than parents to care for them. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were no such thing as wards of the state? Doesn’t it make sense if there are more parents then there will be less wards of the state? How about children currently being raised in a same-sex household? Do you not realize the next step in all of this is to remove those children from their homes? After all, if lovi...

Our Voice

Image
Written by Press Editorial Board Tracy Press, Tracy, California Proposition 8 would outlaw same-sex marriage by adding the following words to the state Constitution: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Despite what this initiative’s supporters say, marriage and domestic partnerships are not the same — and this constitutional right doesn’t dictate health education programs for public schools. We’ve said it before in this space, and we’ll say it again. The freedom to marry is fundamental in our society, just like the freedoms of religion and speech. Our laws should treat everyone equally. No on 8. full article

Man faces possible excommunication from LDS Church for supporting same sex marriage

Image
Reported by: Chris Vanocur ABC 4 News HASTINGS, Neb. (ABC 4 News) - Andrew Callahan is a member of the LDS Church but he thinks not for much longer. Callahan has been speaking out against a gay marriage ban on the California ballot and Callahan now faces excommunication. He says, "We're just wrong and we need to change that and I'm not going to stop when they excommunicate me and I am not going to apologize and beg them to keep me a member of the church." And in his likely last few hours as a Mormon, Callahan wishes that... "..Thomas S. Monson would stand up bravely - like Spencer W. Kimball did in the past - and say enough is enough." full article

The Gay Slant: The Mormon Anti-Gay Money Trail

By Walter Weeks , On Top Magazine California -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons) is an often misunderstood religious minority (2%) in California, but figures out this week show the 13-million member church is having a huge impact on gay marriage in the State. Mormon members have contributed between 35-and-40% of the money raised to support Proposition 8 – the constitutional amendment that seeks to ban gay marriage in the State. Despite the huge anti-gay bankroll, support for the gay marriage ban has fallen since July. The poll reveals a majority of Catholics (55%) back gay marriage. Both campaigns in California have announced plans to spend approximately $20 million on the issue. Imagine the homeless woman, hungry man, or orphaned child that money might have sparred – wasted on a self-serving attempt to deny basic rights to Americans. full article
