The vast majority of LGBT opponents come from religious circles. They use the bible as a weapon of hate instead of an instrument of love. Most claim the bible is perfect, always right and without error. Many claim it is the ‘word of god’ although everyone knows the bible was not dictated and it is the ‘inspired word of men’. Even though some of our opponents stand in direct contradiction to biblical teachings they still feel justified in attacking members of our LGBT community. For instance, women preachers, biblically, are not allowed. In fact, according to the bible, women are to sit in the back of the church and are not allowed to ever discuss religion with men. Such people are turning the bible into a book of hate. They are the ones doing the most harm to the true religious message; the message of love. When the Muslim religion shows its hatred for gays we hear very little from the Muslim community. [ link ] [ link ] [ link ] [ link ] But now that a DVD showing Muslim's in a bad light is makinig the rounds, they are up in arms. Since you folks are selective with your simpathy and compassion, don't be surprised to discover "what goes around comes around"! by Will Moredock The Charleston City Newspaper When Jim Adkisson walked into a Unitarian Universalist church in Knoxville, Tenn., on July 27 and opened fire with a 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun, he said he did it because he was angry at "liberals." Among the Americans who called themselves Unitarians were Thomas Jefferson, John and John Quincy Adams, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Adlai Stevenson. There are too many hate-mongers in the pulpits and on the airwaves in America, telling people like Jim Adkisson that the source of their pain is liberals or blacks or homosexuals. (He probably found all three at the Tennessee Valley UU Church on July 27.) So when we hand out responsibility for this tragedy, let's not forget Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Pat Robertson. Not long ago we heard news about a group of teens stoning a school bus full of young Jewish students , in New York. Today I read about a Mexican immigrant who was killed by a group of teens in Pennsylvania. There has been a rash of graffiti , noose hangings , cross burning and anti-gay hate incidents throughout our country. One must feel distressed over what type of parents are raising these children? Some would say it's high time the parents were held responsible for their children's actions. After all, hate is TAUGHT and is a choice. If a teen doesn't possess sufficient self control or know right from wrong the parents have failed miserably. Of course this brand of hate is not limited to teens. Hate has become a cancer, eating away at humanity from the inside out. If everyone were to cast aside self control and act out on their personal beliefs the world would be in mass chaos. I was watching a movie and heard a religious person ask a non-religious person “Do you know what it says in the 10 commandments?” The non-religious person answered, “I sure do, it says Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t and Don’t”. Folks if your church is about control and hatred you should find another church that is loving and accepting. Somehow, somewhere the message has been lost. Those of you who continue to support hate are helping to cause the destruction of our society. Hateful religion has no place in a future of peace and love. Loving religion could accomplish miracles. On the morning of Feb. 12, his 14-year-old classmate entered Room 42 and shot Larry in the head with a handgun. His father said, "If Larry had the story to write, he'd say, 'If I have to give someone a heart, I want to give it on Valentine's Day.'" Seven of Larry's vital organs were transplanted and he was pronounced dead on Feb. 14. Larry's executioner, Brandon McInerney, is being charged as an adult for premeditated murder with a hate crime allegation. There are reports that his father and mother were involved in excessive drug use and violent arguments, one of which ended when his father shot his mother in the arm. In conflicting reports, people have suggested that Brandon was extremely charming and assertively bullying. The headlines this week about a new "gay" infection were dramatic. FLESH-EATING BUG SPREADS AMONG GAYS, said one Australian newspaper, referring to a study about an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection affecting homosexual men in San Francisco and other American cities. EPIDEMIC FEARED--GAYS MAY SPREAD DEADLY STAPH INFECTION TO GENERAL POPULATION, shouted a press release from the Concerned Women for America, a conservative public-policy group. another religious right site, wordpress, had headlines like THE NEW GAY DISEASE - MDR Staph Infections yet another, catholic.com, said AFTER LINKING NEW STRAIN OF STAPH TO GAY MEN, UNIVERSITY SCRAMBLES ... There were MANY more religious right sites that jumped on with hateful headlines. Can you feel the love? But is there a new HIV-like public health epidemic on the horizon? The American Family Association (AFA) has sent out an " action alert " to its members informing them that Ford's health care policy covers the medical expense of workers who undergo a sex change operation. The AFA report claims "Ford offers medical benefits to help pay expenses of those who choose to undergo sex change operations. Ford pays for mental health counseling, hormone therapy, medical visits, and short-term disability after surgical procedures for employees who desire to change their sex." IMHO I believe the AFA and other anti-gay religious groups actually help gays, lesbians and transgendered people more by highlighting the cause. Demonstrating the insanity, bigotry and hatred surrounding this issue reveals who the real monsters are. Hate mongering and religious zealotry have done more to destroy faith and push people away.
