How involved was the Mormon Church in the passing of Prop 8? New evidence suggest they were more involved and provided more resources than they are admitting to.

UTAH: Employment descrimination

You wouldn’t expect to be harassed because of your sex, race or religion at work. At least not without some sort of repercussion dealt to your attacker. So, what seems to be the difference in the case of sexual orientation? Surprisingly, there are still no laws in Utah against such discrimination for gays, lesbians, bisexual or transgendered people. Ariana and Bryan were two of several gay, lesbian or transgendered people who testified before a state legislative committee this morning. At this meeting, an openly lesbian representative introduced a bill that wou...

As Horenkamp explains it, OUTReach, while not a religious program, was the brain child of the Unitarian Universalist church that houses it. Three years ago, the church’s social action committee decided that they wanted to provide a service for the city’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender teens. Although a number of resources existed to serve Ogden’s 60,000 young people, such as The Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Youth Impact, Horenkamp said none at the time existed specifically for queer youngsters. Horenkamp, who also volunteers at the Teen Suicide Prevention Taskforce in Utah, holds a Master’s degree in counseling and interned at a juvenile corrections facility. Betwe...
