To knowingly lie is almost always wrong. To do so from a position of religious authority is surely, even more wrong! After all, such people usually believe a person cannot possess morals without religious teachings. By making such a claim they suggest that they possess righteous morals because of their extensive religious background. In other words, we are not to question what they say because they possess 'righteous-religious-morality' and are above reproach. Such people are arrogant and believe they are superior. Factually speaking this is often a sign of inferiority! As the old saying goes; Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely! Over and over and over again we hear religious arguments against marriage equality. But the fact remains; there are churches and religions that support marriage equality. Since the United States Constitution grants Freedom of Religion, in the first amendment, it is unconstitutional for any government agency (state or federal) to legally hold one set of religious beliefs above another. Americans United for Separation of Church and State have correctly and courageously stepped up to the plate once again. This time they are defending high school students in Cherokee County, Ga. Of course they've come under attack from the religious fundies. We've heard this song and dance from the fundies before. They claim it's 'just a building'. Rob Boston (of Americans United) correctly states: Let’s say your son or daughter graduating from high school is gay. Do you still think holding public school graduation in a church is a good idea? When I graduated from a technical college as the valedictorian I was expected to give a speech at the graduation ceremony. Unfortunately the ceremony was being held at a church. As a pre-school child I was watching my father as he prepared to mow the lawn. He brought the mower into the garage, filled it up with gas and off he went. I decided to help. So I went and got my mower. Dad was nice enough to leave the gas can easily accessible. Following Dad's lead I 'filled my mower up with gas'. The problem was, my mower was a plastic kids mower. So the gas went on the floor of the garage. Evidently, while Dad and I were out mowing the hot water heater (which was in the garage) came on. The house and Dad’s brand new Lincoln (dream car) burned down! Mom has a burn mark on her leg. This helps keep the story alive and well (when she wears shorts, bathing suit, etc). Guest: “How did you get that terrible scar on your leg?” Mom: “Tom did it when he burned down the house!” So whose fault was it this fire occurred? Through my years I have witnessed what I would term an age of transgression in these United States. Being born into a military officers family I often heard the phrase “Oh, you’re an officer’s son. Born with a silver spoon in your mouth.” But you must remember I was an officer’s son. So I had my own ‘duty to uphold’. With rank comes responsibility. I was an officer’s son. I simply responded with a slight smile. I remember, as a child, if we ever saw a person walking on the road in a military uniform we stopped and gave them a ride. We seldom picked up anyone in civilian clothes. Perhaps I’m biased but I don’t think it had so much to do with the clothing as it did the actual person. Anyone who’s been part of the military knows it changes you. When a soldier fights shoulder to shoulder with another person there is a bond created. Indeed the military becomes your family. Recruit Basic Training camps used to tell the recruits you don’t have a mother and a father any longer. The milit...

There is a recent article in the Washington Times by Julia Duin where she talks about ‘The Family’ sponsored National Prayer Breakfast and the HRC sponsored American Prayer Breakfast. Ms. Duin seems to be suffering from the ‘ostrich syndrome’. You know, when someone buries their head in the sand, refusing to acknowledge glairing and overwhelming facts. She seems a tad bit upset that Frank Schaeffer referred to “The Family” sponsored event as the “KKK Prayer Breakfast” ( Huffington Post article ). Ms. Duin, if you are unaware of “The Family’s” involvement in the current attempt to legislate genocide in Uganda then you surely have not been paying attention. If you cannot see the correlation between killing those of African decent and killing those who are homosexual then I truly feel sorry for you. In Paris, France on December 10, 1948 the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It holds the Guinness World Record for Most Translated Document and is available in over 370 languages . Obviously, this is a document which came about due to the atrocities of World War II. All United Nations member countries are bound to the declaration. This is one reason the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay warned that the Ugandan kill-the-gays bill would bring Uganda into a “direct collision” with established international human rights standards aimed at preventing discrimination. SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Within days of the creation of the American Red Cross LGBT Haiti Relief Fund, a Red Cross representative stated the fund has already raised more money than many of the huge corporate donors. This was accomplished by significant outreach efforts to the LGBT community via donors and activists along with a massive email campaign to the members of three LGBT cruise companies, Olivia, Atlantis and RSVP. Within a week, the community has raised over $150,000 for the fund. Donations of cruises, an upgrade auction and matching funds all were contributed by the cruise companies as pledges came pouring in with record dollars in a matter of a few hours.
