In the recent race for mayor of Houston, Texas it boiled down to a male lawyer and a lesbian. Gene Locke is the male lawyer who tried every dirty trick he could to trash Annise Parker. Gene Locke focused on the fact that Annise Parker is an open and proud lesbian. His campaign spent many thousands of dollars trying to drive home this fact, in hopes that would be enough. Hey Gene, evidently Houston citizens aren't as bigotted as you! In my dreams I hope that people were able to see being Lesbian has nothing to do with one's ability to perform a job. But sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if it has more to do with the fact Gene Locke is a lawyer. But no matter what the reason, Gene Locke (a straight man - we presume) was topped by Annise Parker (a lesbian). by Kevin Krause The Dallas Morning News A questionnaire on homosexuality that was handed out to Dallas County Sheriff's officers during a required diversity training class is causing a stir within the agency. One of the questions asks officers to agree or disagree with the following statement: "The Bible states that homosexuality is immoral." That has upset some Christian deputies, who see it as unnecessary prying into their religious beliefs, according to a sheriff's employee association. The questionnaire does not ask for names. And Kim Leach, the sheriff's spokeswoman, said officers were not required to fill it out. full article

She'll be the first openly gay pastor at an ELCA church in Texas. Austin, Texas - (February 25, 2008) – In an interview with Deborah Solomon in yesterday's The New York Times Magazine, Texas Governor Rick Perry continued his preoccupation with sex, asserting that allowing gays in the Boy Scouts of America would subject boys to "a crash course in sexual orientation". When asked why he supports efforts to keep gays out of the Scouts, Perry said, "I am pretty clear about this one. Scouting ought to be about building character, not about sex. Period. Precious few parents enroll their boys in the Scouts to get a crash course in sexual orientation." Fort Worth City Councilman Chuck Silcox urged a group of Republicans on Wednesday to vote for Chris Turner in the nonpartisan District 9 council race because Turner is Republican and straight . "We have two people of opposite partisan politics, opposite philosophical persuasions and opposite sexual orientations. I didn't tell you which one was homosexual," Silcox said as the crowd laughed. Pointing to Turner, Silcox continued: "He's married to a female, and the other's married to a male. You make your own mind up."
