Mr. Obama was in Los Angeles this past Wednesday. Due to the recent Prop 8 decision handed out in paper-form by the California Supreme Court there were many protestors outside the event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Once inside the event Mr. Obama made the following statement: "One of them said, Obama keep your promise. I thought that's fair. I don't know which promise he was talking about." Mr. Obama, an honest man doesn’t need to question which promise to keep because they keep all of them.

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Chief Executive Officer Lorri L. Jean released the following letter to President Barack Obama today: Dear President Obama: Welcome to California, Mr. President. Friday I discovered President elect Barack Obama has setup a new transition website. You can find it at http://www.change.gov/ . The site outlines some of the changes the Obama/Biden team are going to address. Although the words gay, glbt, gay marriage or civil unions do not appear anywhere on the site there is one instance of the term “sexual orientation”. There were two points in the civil rights section which affect out community and I was pleased to see them and the wording used. 1. They will pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. 2. Obama and Biden will strengthen federal hate crimes legislation, expand hate crimes protection by passing the Matthew Shepard Act, and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice's Criminal Section. With the millions of dollars heaped upon passage of Proposition 8 in California it was hard to imagine it would be struck down. Many people fought a good fight and are to be commended. I’m sure many religious folks are very happy with the outcome. But when it comes right down to it they preserved a word, because, as we all know, given the divorce rate in the USA, there is very little sanctity or morality left in marriage. The greater victory last night was on a federal level with the election of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. President Obama will level this marriage “playing field” on the federal level and of course, as we all know, Federal Law supercedes state law. Perhaps it won’t be called marriage but it will confer all the same Rights as marriage and after all, that is the goal. If you’re still stinging over the unsuccessful bid for nomination by Hillary Clinton, it’s time to look forward, even if the disappointment still hurts. We are faced with the most stark choice in recent memory, with ramifications for our community like no other. If nothing else convinces you to vote for Barack Obama, surely the likelihood of the next president appointing one, two, or possibly even three Supreme Court justices should do it.
