On Sept 10, 2009 the Atlanta Police raided a gay bar known as the Atlanta Eagle. A website has been created with full details: www.atlantaeagleraid.com As a ex-police officer myself I must say several facts about this raid point to abuse of power. For instance, in the official police report an officer states: "I participated in an undercover operation with the vice unit at 306 Ponce De Leon Ave NE at the Atlanta Eagle. This was the conclusion of a several week investigation..." I find it quite odd they had time for a "several week investigation" but didn't have time to obtain a warrant. The purpose of the raid was to investigate reports of lewd conduct and to make arrests for unlicensed adult entertainment, because the bar had four dancers in boxer-briefs. The police entered the business, forced everyone to the floor, searched every one, confiscated identifications, entered everyone's name into the police computer and infringed upon decent american citizens...

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution The Rev. Jody Hice fired a verbal volley Sunday in a battle that he believes will return the United States to its American Revolutionary roots. From his pulpit at Bethlehem First Baptist Church outside of Atlanta, he urged his congregation to vote for Sen. John McCain and to not vote for Sen. Barack Obama. He based his recommendations on McCain’s opposition to abortion and gay marriage and Obama’s support of those issues, Hice told the Barrow County church packed with about 400 listeners. full article

By The Associated Press ATLANTA — A federal judge says a gay-rights program sanctioned by the Georgia Institute of Technology cannot use language that discriminates against religions that condemn homosexuality. University officials said the information was removed a year ago, and that the April 29 ruling requires no further action from Tech. They said they disagreed with the ruling but did not plan to appeal. full article

The Southern Voice story said that the preachers did not draw much of a crowd , and those students who did stop to listen responded with derisive laughter or with puzzlement. One Georgia Tech student, dressed in a bathrobe, shouted equations from his calculus. Other students used the proceedings as fodder for jokes; Southern Voice recounted how a preacher asked onlookers, "How many of you masturbate?" When hands went up, the preacher declared, "[You] are in serious danger of becoming homosexuals." Said one student, as he wrapped his arms around another young man, "My god, I think it’s already happening to me!"
