Religious Left

Unitarian Universalists have a long history of supporting gay rights . Many congregations marry same-sex couples in the church or bless their unions, including the Fairbanks fellowship. Becoming a Welcoming Congregation isn’t so much a change in policy, but a reaffirmation of beliefs. “It means that we’re open and you can come to Mass and be who you are,” said UUFF member Jana Perce. “We’re not a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ church.” In recognition of its new status, the UUFF will also fly a rainbow flag every Sunday, and a stained glass rainbow-colored flaming chalice, the symbol of Unitarians, now hangs in one of the building’s windows.

Anglican leaders from Scotland and Mexico are expected to call for gay people's full inclusion in the church, in a row which has split the Communion. Their call is anticipated at a conference in Manchester Cathedral to promote "inclusive theology". Archbishop Carlos Touche-Porter of Mexico, and Primus Idris Jones of the Scottish Episcopal Church, are taking part in the conference. It is thought that were the US branch of the Communion to leave or be expelled, it would take several other liberal national churches with it, possibly including both Mexico and Scotland.

It seems to me there is a distinction between Religious affiliation and Political affiliation. It also seems many blur the distinction (ie: websites with a similar name to this one). A "Religious left person" is not required to be Republican. I submit, there are many Democrats with "religious left" thinking as well as other political affiliations.
