We heard news recently about a Valentines Day protest in front of a Catholic Church in the Chicago area. ( article ) A couple points in the story need addressing. The first was a church representative who stated: "They may not like it, but it's the teaching of the church that marriage is between one man and one woman," Dolan said. "Those of us in the church don't get to choose what the teachings are." The last time I looked the Catholic Church uses the Bible for their teachings. Any church which selects parts to emphasize and other parts to minimize is picking and choosing. For example, since the church follows the Bible one must wonder how they explain the multiple wives and concubines of King Solomon. Or the love story between David and Johnathan. Not to mention the fact, when discussing eunichs Jesus himself stated “some come from their mothers womb that way”. I also find it interesting that many religious, they themselves, do not abide by verses ...

There comes a time when we can no longer sit on the sidelines. NOW is that time! We stood with the black community during their civil rights movement yet 70% of that community refuses to stand with us now and have actually stood on the other side, against us! A Nationwide Protest is being organized for November 15. We need to work fast and furious to pull this together. KSL 5 TV Thousands marched in downtown Salt Lake Friday night to protest the passage of California's Proposition 8. Like their counterparts in California, the Utah protesters targeted The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It began with a rally that police tell us grew in size from dozens to somewhere between 2,000 and 5,000 men, women and children carrying their signs around Temple Square. View video and article

Reported by: Staci-Lyn Honda WETM 18 ELMIRA--The lawyer for the protesters says they have the right to express their religious beliefs. But they say that right was taken away from them at June's gay pride event. No one was arrested. But the protester's attorney says police told not to hold signs or pass out literature on Christianity. He says one of the protesters was also told to take off a shirt with the words "liberated by the blood of Jesus." These are the same protesters that were found guilty of disrupting a gay pride event last year. That ruling has been appealed by the protestors. But no ruling has been made yet. full article including video report

At times drowned out by the din of same-sex wedding-bell revelry, especially in the ultra-liberal San Francisco Bay Area, opponents of gay marriage braced for Tuesday's landmark ceremonies with a mixture of scattered public demonstrations, Bible-verse invocation, and discussions about the definition of family. "The standard is one man, one woman, one lifetime - that's it," agreed Shirley Phelps-Roper with the Topeka-based Westboro Baptist Church that dispatched a handful of protesters to California this week. Gay marriage "is another in-your-face, smashed-mouth flipping-off affront to God for which you'll pay dearly." full article

(Baltimore, Maryland) In what is believed to be the first civil lawsuit against the Rev. Fred Phelps' church over an anti-gay protest at the funeral of someone from the military killed in Iraq, the father of the dead Marine said the demonstration made him sick to his stomach and gave him nightmares. Albert Snyder is suing Phelps and his Topeka, Kan.-based church after church members demonstrated at the funeral of Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder last year in Maryland, and then posted pictures of the protest on their Web site. Cpl. Snyder was killed in March, 2006. "They turned this funeral into a media circus and they wanted to hurt my family," Albert Snyder testified. "They wanted their message heard and they didn't care who they stepped over. My son should have been buried with dignity, not with a bunch of clowns outside."
