In a statement on his website Keith Ellison, who has represented the Fifth Congressional District of Minnesota in the House of Representatives since January 2007, said: "I am proud to join Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin and Congressman Barney Frank today in launching the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus." Ms Baldwin and Mr Frank are the only openly gay people in Congress. full article

It would appear some of the religious right are rather upset that Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin was allowed to have her partner, Lauren Azar, accompany her on a congressional fact-finding trip to Europe. Military officials were apparently unwilling to consider Azar a “spouse”. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was “ forced to intervene with Defense Secretary Robert Gates”. This seems to have ruffled some feathers on the right.
